Compression Latches
Southco and DIRAK compression latches turn and then pull the door tight onto its gasket. They are used for IP-rated electrical enclosures, telecoms cabinets, vehicle compartments and anywhere vibration would rattle a door.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a cam lock and a compression latch?
A cam lock simply rotates a cam behind the frame to hold the door closed. A compression latch rotates and then pulls the door inwards, compressing the gasket. Use a compression latch when the enclosure needs an IP or NEMA seal, or where vibration would otherwise rattle the door.
Can you match a latch or hinge I already have?
Yes. Send us the part number, a photo or a drawing, and our technical sales team will identify the Southco or DIRAK equivalent and confirm the dimensions before you order.
Do you supply stainless steel enclosure hardware?
Many latches, hinges and handles in the range are available in stainless steel or with corrosion-resistant finishes for outdoor, mining and food-processing environments. Each product page lists the material and finish.

Gas strut force calculator
Work out roughly how much force each gas strut needs to lift a lid, hatch or door. Then send us the result and we’ll match a SUSPA strut with the right stroke and fittings.

Gas strut sizing tips
- Mount rod-down. This keeps the seal lubricated and gives smooth damping at the end of travel.
- Choose the stroke from the opening angle. As a rule of thumb, the strut’s stroke should be about half the change in distance between its two fixing points from closed to fully open.
- Leave room for movement. Fit ball-socket or eyelet end fittings so the strut can swing freely through its arc without side load on the rod.
- Remember temperature. Gas force rises and falls by roughly 3% for every 10 °C, which matters on vehicles and outdoor equipment.
- Lifting a heavy lid? Use two struts, one on each side, so the lid does not twist.
